This glass is rich in story and tradition. Artist Donald Chretien, masterfully incorporates the Ojibwe turtle design onto this classic style. Vibrant and incredibly detailed in design Turtle Island is the name of North America according to some Indigenous groups.
The name Turtle Island comes from First Nations folklore. Many storytellers have different versions of the story, but they mostly agree on how the turtle is part of the creation story. Many First Nations Peoples hold special respect for the fabled turtle that, according to folklore sacrificed his life so that the Earth’s people could have a second chance.
